Commuters heading from Brighouse to London this morning had a bold send-off – from a brass band.

Young musicians from the Wardle Academy Band in Rochdale played three pieces on the platform at Brighouse Railway Station before jumping on board the 7.19am Grand Central train to King’s Cross.

The 15 youngsters were due to play on the train and then perform a 15-minute set at King’s Cross.

The music on the move was the brainchild of Alex Bray, organiser of the brass competition Brass Factor which comes to Holmfirth Picturedrome on November 15.

The band played Let Me Entertain You, I Am Going to Fly Now and Ruby Tuesday at Brighouse Station and Alex said: “We had a great reaction from commuters who were taking pictures, video and tweeting about us.

“The band are loving it too. It’s a great experience for them.”

Grand Central is sponsoring Brass Factor for the fourth year.
