A garage was totally destroyed in a fire.

Firefighters were called to a single storey unit in Britannia Road, Milnsbridge, at 6.21pm on Saturday.

A man was working on a car in the 10m by 10m garage when petrol in the fuel tank caught fire.

The flames quickly engulfed the car before spreading to another car in the garage and then to the building itself.

Both vehicles and the unit were gutted. The man is thought to have escaped unhurt and alerted emergency services.

“We are not yet sure what it was that caused the fuel to ignite.”
