AN elderly woman has had a collection of watches (pictured) worth thousands of pounds stolen from her home.

The 35 pocket watches and five wristwatches are believed to have been taken from the house at Boathouse Lane, Mirfield, between last March and January 19 this year.

The 78-year-old woman says she believes the watches were taken by someone she let into her house during this period.

They were last valued in 1974 when they were worth £3,000. But the collection is now thought to be worth many times more.

The police are now appealing for anyone who has any information about the watches to contact Pc Kamram Akram on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
