He’s a Huddersfield rapper with a poignant message.

Zishaan Faridi, who is known as “Shortz” to his friends and rap fans, has launched a Christmas appeal to get more help for the region’s homeless.

He hopes the film, released on social media, will persuade more people to back him with his Helping Hand charity.

The charity was founded by Zishann in 2013, when he encountered a homeless man begging outside a restaurant when her had gone for a meal with friends.

As he was waiting for his food he saw the man outside the restaurant asking for help to people who were passing by and nobody acknowledged or helped him.

Zishann said he was so touched that when his food arrived he was unable to eat it and went outside to speak to the homeless man, before going on to buy him a hot meal.

“It made me realise I had to do something to make a difference,” he said.

He decided to make a difference at Christmas 2013 and since then the charity has fed and clothed over 150 people who are homeless and live on the streets.

Now Zishann, 23, of Waterloo, is actively seeking support from retailers, food and bedding companies and local people as he is doing all this by himself at present.

“I’ve never had everything I wanted in life, but I’ve always been thankful for everything I do have because life could have been a lot different for me, now I have to make a difference, that’s all.”

He has released a touching seven-minute short documentary on Christmas day through social media channels displaying the work he has been doing and what he wants businesses and people to get involved in next year so the charity has the capacity to reach more homeless people through 2016

“By engaging with homeless people, with local knowledge, we can sort their needs by providing them with clothes, food and support in certain circumstances.

“The charity’s main aim is to raise enough money to build a shelter which will accommodate the homeless at a low cost.”
