A man has been airlifted to hospital after falling 20ft from a tree.

It is believed the man, thought to be in his late 40s, was cutting back a tree at his home in Hepworth Lane, Mirfield, when one of the branches gave way.

The man fell about 20ft onto a garden wall and suffered what are thought to be back injuries.

Paramedics were called and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance was drafted in.

The helicopter landed in the nearby Balderstone Hall fields and the man was flown to Leeds General Infirmary.

Mirfield town councillor Steve Benson, out walking his dog, helped at the scene when he saw the air ambulance land.

A man fell from a tree in Hepworth Lane, Mirfield, and had to be airlifted by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Clr Benson said the man was stabilised at the scene and seemed in good spirits after the accident.
