A major road through Gomersal will be closed until at least the weekend as emergency repair work continues following a water main burst.

The A651 Oxford Road has been shut in both directions between Grove Lane and Bleak Street since the main burst on Monday evening.

The incident caused some damage to the road surface.

It happened in the middle of a four-way junction, and is also affecting Church Lane in both directions between Oxford Road and Craven Drive, and Spen Lane in both directions between Oxford Road and Pollard Avenue.

Some buses have had to divert their routes.

No homes or businesses have lost water supplies, which are said to be running as normal.

Yorkshire Water says work is ongoing to repair the burst pipe.

A spokesman said: “We are progressing well with the emergency repair work to the burst water pipe and we hope to re-open the junction at some point this weekend all being well, but cannot give an exact date.

“We’d like to thank motorists and residents for their patience whilst we carry out this emergency repair work. Water supplies are running as normal.”
