WORKERS have started refurbishing water mains this week.

Balfour Beatty Utilities began replacing a six-inch main in Fixby yesterday.

One lane of Bradford Road between Netheroyd Hill Road and Woodside Lane has been closed during the work, which is expected to take 11 weeks.

Balfour Beatty spokeswoman Wendy Howarth said: “We accept there really isn’t a good time to dig up the roads and some disruption is inevitable, but we’ve tried to keep it to a minimum.

“It may help to ease congestion if drivers can find an alternative route.”

Water supplies are not expected to be disrupted.
