STANDEDGE Visitor Centre in Marsden is set for a record-breaking visitor season thanks to the internet.

The worldwide web will be used to bring the Huddersfield Narrow Canal's history alive for thousands of school- children and students.

WOW - Wild Over Waterways - is an initiative by British Waterways, The Waterways Trust and the Inland Waterways Association.

And it is hoped it will help attract many more visitors to the new centre at Marsden, nestling in a former warehouse alongside the restored canal.

The project is aimed at seven to 11-year-olds and links up to the national curriculum in English, history, science, maths and geography.

There are also links to key stages in transport, society and the environment

Education and events manager Sandra McCash said: "Our permanent exhibition, expertly guided boat trips and education suite provide an integrated educational package which will fascinate and benefit visiting students."
