A WEBSITE is being launched today to help parents understand the age ratings system for computer and video games.

Askaboutgames.com is designed to be a guide for parents to allow them to make informed choices when choosing games for their children.

Recent research has shown consumers appear to be confused about the age ratings system applied to computer and video games.

It found parents tended to ignore age ratings on video games as they thought they were an indication of the game's complexity and the challenge it presented rather than its content.

The website has been developed by the Entertainment and Leisure Software Publishers' Association in response to concerns over the type of content children may be exposed to when playing computer games.

The site will answer questions parents may have on game ratings and symbols and explain why ratings are important and how they work.

It will also offer tips on how children can play safely. Visitors to the site can see examples of a typical game for a specific game rating.
