A COUPLE who met at a youth club in Meltham have celebrated their golden wedding.

Lewis and Muriel Moorhouse, of Holmfirth Road, Meltham, married at the village's Methodist Church.

Mrs Moorhouse came to Meltham from Sheffield when she was 10. Mr Moorhouse has lived in Meltham all his life.

He worked as a joiner and spent 20 years at David Brown Tractors in Meltham Mills. His wife was a dinner lady at Meltham C of E School for 19 years.

They have two children and two grandchildren.

A COUPLE who are former escorts with Examiner Travel have celebrated their diamond wedding.

Frank and Joyce West, of Fixby Road, Fixby, met when they lived in Sheepridge more than 60 years ago.

They married at Woodhouse Church.

Mr West worked for the former Huddersfield Borough Council parks division and retired as deputy registrar for cemeteries and crematoria with Kirklees.

Mrs West was the manageress at Greenside Launderama at Waterloo.

They have two children, 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Love still on track

A KIRKHEATON couple have celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Joan and Ken Jones, of Heaton Avenue, were married at St Andrew's Church in Holmfield near Halifax.

The couple, both aged 70, met when Mrs Jones's family moved to Baildon when her father became master of the train station there.

Mr Jones, who also lived in Baildon, was a booking clerk at Guiseley Railway Station.

After marrying, the couple moved to Marsden in 1954.

The couple, who have lived in Kirkheaton for 24 years, have two sons and three daughters and 16 grandchildren.

Diamond days

A COUPLE who ran a furniture business in Slaithwaite for almost 20 years have celebrated their diamond wedding.

Mr and Mrs Verdi and Marjorie Lawton, of Holme Lane, met on a trolley bus on their way home from work and had their first date at a dance at Cambridge Road Baths.

The couple married at St Bartholomew's Church, Marsden.

They bought the shop after Mr Lawton had served for five years in the RAF.

Up until four years ago both played badminton at Slaithwaite Leisure Centre..

They have four children, six grandchildren and one great grandchild.
