LONG delays have built up on the M62 in both directions following an accident.

The Highways Agency said there are currently two lanes closed westbound between Junctions 21 and 22, and one lane closed eastbound.

Traffic is currently queuing westbound back to Junction 24 (Brighouse) and eastbound back to Junction 17 (Whitefield).

The lane closures are in place to allow repairs to the central barrier and a lighting column which were damaged following a three vehicle road traffic collision which happened just before 3pm today.

Traffic Officers from Milnrow Outstation worked with Greater Manchester Police to remove the vehicles to the hard shoulder and Highways Agency contractors are carrying out the essential repairs.

Overhead signs have been set to warn drivers of the delays.
