It was designed to celebrate young entrepreneurs.

And the inaugural festival which saw Huddersfield’s streets and markets bustling over the weekend could now become an annual event.

The Welcome to Huddersfield event included street performances, creative crafts and the chance to meet young business people.

It was organised by Kirklees Council which got Huddersfield into one of just 10 places in the TestTown 2015 competition to find the brightest young entrepreneurs in the UK.

Queensgate Market’s Events Zone was used by students while stallholders from the Alternative Market used other pop-up locations in the market.

On Saturday a vintage fair was held on the ground floor of the Byram Arcade, and on Sunday Byram Arcade and Queensgate Market were open, while the Upmarket Sunday was back at Huddersfield Open Market.

Mark Smith, of the Huddersfield Indoor Market Tenants’ Association, said it had been incredibly busy.

“It’s been very good. There’s been all sorts going on, and it would be nice if it could become a regular event.”
