One of Huddersfield’s best-known companies has stopped selling to the public ... but Goodalls is carrying on buying and selling caravans.

The firm was originally founded at Crosland Hill in the late 1960s at the start of the age of caravanning and has been at Shepley for the last 17 years.

But the internet has led to fierce competition within the caravanning market so owners Julian and Julie Goodall have decided to concentrate on buying caravans from the public and then selling them within the trade.

Its base at the Sovereign crossroads has now closed.

Mr Goodall said: “The internet has changed everything and it’s become less economical with all the overheads from selling caravans from a specific place so we have decided to go down a different direction.

“And that is to buy caravans and motorhomes from members of the public and then sell them within the trade so Goodalls as a business carries on, but just in a different way. It also means our working week has far more flexibility.”

Mr Goodall added: “It’s been a very controlled finishing of our caravan sales at Shepley and customers’ warranties all remain in place through a third party. We have very much enjoyed our years at Shepley and we have had some very loyal, happy and satisfied customers.”
