House price statistics released by the Land Registry have revealed the most expensive and cheapest streets in Kirklees and Calderdale.

Marchcroft in Halifax came out on top in Calderdale with sales averaging £487,500 last year.

The Huddersfield side of Halifax is definitely the most desirable place to live in Calderdale with Brighouse and Greetland accounting for six of the most expensive streets.

On the back of the statistics estate agents are predicting a good year for the Huddersfield housing market, with prices rising a modest 2% to 3%.

Nationally the picture could be hardly more extreme with the most expensive home selling for almost £55m and the cheapest a rather less cool £8,000.

The priciest was a seven-bedroomed house at The Boltons in Kensington and Chelsea which sold for £54,959,000.

It also has five bathrooms and three reception rooms.

There are currently 252 houses and flats to buy in the exclusive London postcode of SW10 with an average asking price of £2,283,650.

The cheapest was a home that sold on Curzon Street in Bradford for £8,000.

Other cheapies are Limetrees Close in Middlesbrough at £9,000 and Violet Street in Burnley, also at £9,000.

The most expensive street in England and Wales is South Eaton Place in Westminster with an average house price of £8.68m and the cheapest street is Grange Street in Burnley with a price of £14,500.
