A PUB landlady is hoping a decision to shut a tourist centre will not hit trade.

Mrs Bev Earnshaw, who runs the Tunnel End Inn, in Marsden, with husband Gary, said British Waterways' decision to close the Standedge Visitor Centre for a winter revamp had been a shock.

"But we want to assure all our customers that we will continue opening as normal," she said.

The Earnshaws' Tunnel End pub is a stone's throw from the visitor centre, which is to undergo a big revamp by tourism chiefs.

Mrs Earnshaw said: "People see our pub name and think we are involved with the centre, which is not the case."
