THREE veteran members of a Huddersfield club have been honoured for their years of service.

Barbara Nightingale from Fenay Bridge and Berry Brow women Audry Greenwood and Shirley Moorhouse have been members of the West Riding Lady Drivers’ Club since its formation 45 years ago.

The three women, who are retiring from the committee this year, were presented with gifts at the club’s monthly meeting at Longley Park Golf Club.

Drivers’ Club spokeswoman Wendy Stevens said: “They have done whatever they’ve been asked to do for the last 45 years.”

Mrs Stevens explained the history of the club. She said: “It was started in Huddersfield 45 years ago for ladies who were a bit frightened of calling a man out to fix their cars in the middle of the night.

“But we’ve since become a social club. We hold talks once a month and raise money for charity.”

Anyone interested in joining the club can call Mrs Stevens on 01422 370434.
