FIVE people have been arrested in connection with a fatal road traffic collision.

Police suspected the driver of a red van fled to Huddersfield after the tragic death of 68-year-old Peter Lambert on July 23 at Lennox Drive in Wakefield.

The hunt for the hit and run killer switched to Huddersfield after a red Nissan Navara truck, understood to be involved, was parked in the area for about 24 hours after the tragedy.

It had left the Wakefield scene at around 2.45pm and was believed to have been spotted parked just off Wakefield Road in Almondbury until around 3pm the following day.

But yesterday officers from West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team and the Major Collision Enquiry Team arrested five people from locations throughout the UK.

They are a 28-year-old man and 33-year-old woman from East Kilbride, Scotland, and a 30-year-old man and 23-year-old man from Gainsborough, Lincolnshire.

A 26-year-old man from Durham has been re-arrested.

A spokesman said all of those arrested were being transferred back to West Yorkshire for questioning.
