Police found a deadly hunting knife dumped in Huddersfield.

And now they have urged people with knives to dispose of: “Hand them in to us.”

The knife, with an eight-inch serrated blade, was found in a small wooded area in Paddock.

Bizarrely, it was wrapped in tinfoil and was found next to a scabbard.

A police spokesman said: “Rather than just discarding knives and risking them getting into the wrong hands, you can hand them in at a police station.

“Or you can contact us via 101, on-line at www.westyorkshire.police.uk or via email at rural@westyorkshire.pnn.police.uk and we will dispose of them safely.”

Two months ago West Yorkshire Police carried an amnesty for weapons.

A deadly AK47 assault rifle was one of more than 80 guns handed in, along with more than 150 knives, swords and bladed weapons.

They were dropped in special bins at police stations.
