West Yorkshire Police have announced the death of one of their horses.

This morning they revealed that Fimber, who joined the police in 2004 , had died as a result of an accident yesterday.

The horse, age 14, was in his paddock at Carr Gate in Wakfield when he became spooked and attempted to vault the fences.

He collided with a wooden post and was badly hurt.

West Yorkshire Police's horses are well known to users of social media , with officers posting updates on a daily basis to thousands of people.

The pictures below are images of Fimber taken by officers over the past few weeks.

Superintendent Pat Casserly said:"He was seriously injured and unfortunately died on his way to the vet.

"Officers and staff at Carr Gate are distraught at the sudden death of Fimber. He was friendly and courageous and will be sadly missed."
