THE basic allowance for councillors on the regional transport authority has been frozen.

The West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority agreed to keep its basic allowance at £6,000 each.

In Kirklees councillors on the authority are Gwen Lowe (Batley), Andrew Pinnock (Cleckheaton) and Liz Smaje (Birstall and Birkenshaw) as well as Elland’s Clr David Hardy and cabinet member Barry Collins who both sit on Calderdale Council.

Clr James Lewis, Metro chairman, gets a special allowance of £31,000, while the authority’s deputy chair, Kirklees Mayor Clr Eric Firth, gets an extra £12,400.

Members agreed not to increase the allowance “in light of current budgetary constraints”.
