A man's head was slashed with a large knife during a terrifying attack in Slaithwaite.

He suffered serious wounds when he was attacked late on Saturday night in a busy pub.

The victim, a 28-year-old man, was approached by two men inside the Wharfeside Inn on Carr Lane at around 11pm.

He was attacked with a knife and ended up with a deep head wound.

He was treated at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary but has since been discharged.

Police were called to the attack which is believed to have been witnessed by a number of people enjoying a Saturday night out.

Officers were on the scene until around 4am, witnesses told.

Scenes of crimes officers also attended.

Detectives are now investigating the circumstances leading up to the attack.

Witnesses have said they believe it may have stemmed from an earlier altercation that evening.

Police confirmed a 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and has been interviewed by detectives. He has been granted police bail as enquiries continue into the incident.
