Huddersfield could well see snow on Christmas Day.

But don’t expect to see it laying deep and crisp and even across the town.

It’s far more likely to be a few very wet snow flurries, borne in on some gale-force winds lashing the region.

That’s very much the forecast for the weekend and indeed through much of next week, with strong winds, driving rain and chillier temperatures.

Huddersfield weather expert Paul Stevens has warned of some very stormy weather to come in the next seven days, even though temperatures are not expected to drop much.

“The message for the run-up right through to the New Year is for very wild, windy and unsettled weather.

“We have had similar spells already in December, although temperatures have been above average.

“Today should see some of the heavy rain of Friday finally blow away on westerly winds but we will see showers throughout much of the day.

“We could get a mix of rain and sleet on some of the higher ground and there could well be gusts of wind of up to 60mph.

“Temperatures will stay over the weekend at about 5 Deg Celsius but in the wind it will certainly feel much chillier than that.

“Monday will see the area hit by another nasty storm, with heavy rain and again gale-force winds which may even bring the risk of some structural damage in some areas.

“Christmas Eve and Christmas Day look set to be much the same, with mainly wet and windy weather but also some risk of sleet or snow.

“The definition of a white Christmas is supposed to be a snowflake falling on the Met Office but in reality here, we may get flurries of wet snow or sleet in many areas.

“It will not be the festive Christmas picture of glistening snow laying on the ground and trees; it will be wet and slushy if we get any.

“The main message for the run up through to the New Year is for a stormy outlook”.
