A SHELLEY woman has raised £1,666 in memory of her husband.

Maureen Matthews held a coffee day at Lydgate Styles in Huddersfield Road, Shelley, which is owned by her daughter Claire Moore.

The event included a raffle, tombola and cake stall and lasted for 10 hours.

Mrs Matthews arran- ged the coffee day to mark the first anniversary of the death of her husband, John Matthews.

He died from cancer at the age of 59.

The money raised from the event will be split between Kirkwood Hospice, Dalton, and Emma- nuel Church at Shelley.

Mrs Matthews, who has just moved to Shelley from New Mill, said: "My husband is buried at the church and they are always in need of funds.

"And I think the hospice is a good local charity. I have supported them before.

"I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who helped."
