A SECOND national conference of groups opposing wind farms will be held in Delph.

The meeting will be hosted by Saddleworth Moors Action Group (Smag) at the Saddleworth Hotel on Huddersfield Road on Tuesday, April 12.

TV environment expert David Bellamy will speak at the meeting, which will be chaired by Sir Bernard Ingham, Margaret Thatcher's former Press secretary.

One of the issues which will be discussed are the plans for wind turbines to be built on Denshaw Moor.

Smag has been embroiled in a bitter row over United Utilities' proposals to build seven wind turbines over 12 months.

The action group is strongly against the structures - each hundreds of feet high - as members fear they will disrupt the landscape.

A German government report recently cast doubt on the efficiency of wind turbines.

Sir Bernard said receently: "Wind is useless, expensive and unsightly."

The conference will run from 1pm to 5pm and includes a buffet lunch.
