HUDDERSFIELD woke up to a frosty start this morning as a dusting of snow transformed the region into a winter wonderland.

Forecasters predict more frosty, bright conditions over the weekend, with snow showers expected in many parts of the UK.

Huddersfield police road traffic sergeant Andrew Addy said the A635 Isle of Skye Road and the A62 Manchester Road remained open today.

He reported no problems overnight, adding that Kirklees Council gritters made sure major high-level routes stayed passable.

Tonight will be dry and clear, allowing a widespread frost to develop.

Another cold day is in store tomorrow, with bitter winds easing. There could be occasional snow or sleet showers.

Sunday and Monday look set to repeat the pattern, being dry and sunny with the odd snowfall.
