For anyone planning to go out this Saturday there’s a high probability of rain with wintry showers also creeping in over the weekend.

But mercifully there will be little chance of any flooding on the scale experienced by many residents in Cumbria.

Leon Brown, meteorologist at the The Weather Channel UK says: “We are expecting a much wetter period again and an increasing risk of some more serious flooding with more prolonged rain falling on saturated ground, and already very high rivers.

“Exactly how far north they extend remains uncertain but many forecasts are suggesting they will run across Ireland to Wales, central and northern England but could reach southern Scotland.

“The heaviest rainfall will probably be in parts of Wales with 200-300mm possible in 48 hours.

“Also there is the risk that along the northern edge of the rain areas we may see some heavy snow, most likely across Northern England and the Pennines.”

Examiner weather forecaster Paul Stevens said: “Fortunately the topography of Huddersfield means that it is very different to that of the peaks which border the Irish sea towards Cumbria.

“We had an inch of rain overnight in Huddersfield and on Saturday afternoon the next rain belt is forecast.

“It could end up heading a bit further north and missing this area with the Lake District in for another two to three inches. But if it does come to us we could see 25-40mm of rain on Saturday afternoon.”
