A woman suffered serious injuries after a hit and run incident.

She was hurt after being struck by a motorcyclist, who then failed to stop and help her.

The 47-year-old pedestrian was at the junction of Church Avenue and May Street in Crosland Moor at 23.23pm on Saturday night when the incident took place.

Police have just released details with a plea for help.

Officers say the woman suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries after the motorcycle collided with her as she crossed the road with her 15-year-old son. The 15-year-old was uninjured.

PC Martin Willis of Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Support said: “This is clearly a serious incident in which the rider involved has failed to stop at the scene.

“The victim has been left with serious injuries and we are appealing for witnesses to help trace the motorcycle and rider involved.

“We would also appeal for the rider to come forward and contact us now.”

It is believed that the motorcycle was being followed by a silver Vauxhall Corsa, which later failed to stop for police and was later recovered.

The motorcycle that collided with the pedestrian is described as a black, off-road motorcycle that did not have any registration plates.

The rider was wearing a black helmet.

Anyone who has information about the motorcycle, the rider or the incident is asked to contact PC Martin Willis of Safer Roads and Neighbourhoods Support East via 101.
