A woman was badly hurt in a pile-up on the M62.
She suffered a broken arm and leg in the smash on the eastbound carriageway between Junction 26 at Chain Bar and Junction 27 at Gildersome.
The accident happened at 1.35pm on Saturday and the motorway was closed for several hours before reopening at 5pm. One lane of the westbound carriageway was also closed.
It meant hundreds of motorists were trapped on the motorway while emergency services and accident investigation experts worked at the scene. There were also long delays on surrounding roads once the drivers managed to get onto them.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: “This was a serious road traffic collision involving three vehicles one of which was a Transit van.”
