A WOMAN motorbike passenger was killed last night.
The 37-year-old from Halifax died when the bike skidded out of control up the A629 Calderdale Way towards Ainley Top.
The accident, which happened around 7.15pm, took place near the tunnel running beneath the M62.
Police said the bike hit a central crash barrier.
Road traffic officers added that no other vehicles were involved.
The southbound stretch of road was closed.
The victim, who was riding pillion on the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 28-year-old man was later arrested in connection with the incident.

The driver pulled on to the hard shoulder as smoke filled his cab as he drove from Brighouse to Ainley Top at 10.45am yesterday.
He escaped unhurt and firefighters stopped the flames reaching his load of frozen ham.
* A lorry driver escaped unhurt after running into the back of a crane yesterday.
The accident, at 3.45pm on the eastbound carriageway of the M62, wrecked the lorry but left the crane undamaged.
