A WOMAN has been charged with murder following the death of a 76-year-old great grandmother at her Mirfield home.

Anne Garbutt lived alone at her terraced cottage on secluded The Clough off Huddersfield Road in Battyeford.

The alarm was raised by her grand-daughter, Joanne, who hammered on a neighbour's door to raise the alarm at 9.40am on Monday.

Police and paramedics attended and a murder inquiry was immediately launched by detectives from West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Inquiry Team.

A 32-year-old Leeds woman was last night charged with murder after being in custody since Monday.

She has not been named, but was due to appear before Dewsbury Magistrates Court today.

A neighbour revealed Mrs Garbutt had suffered from dementia for the last three years and was visited virtually every day by her devoted daughter, Maureen, and often by her grand-daughter Joanne, who has a severely disabled 12-year-old daughter.
