A WOMAN appeared in court after stealing cash planted as part of a police sting.

Evelyn Clemant, of Lowerhouses, stole the £40 worth of notes placed by officers in the Newsome home of a pensioner she was suspected of stealing from.

Clemant, 46, was arrested after she was caught on camera.

Huddersfield magistrates heard police were alerted after the pensioner’s cleaner became suspicious of Clemant’s frequent visits.

They placed two marked £20 notes in the property and set up a camera which showed her taking the money.

Clemant pleaded guilty to the theft and her case was adjourned until April 24 for further reports.
