A woman had to be cut free from a car after a smash on a busy main road.

The Vauxhall Astra she was in careered into a tree after a two-car crash on Leeds Road at Roberttown right outside Teale’s recovery specialists garage at 1pm today.

She was a front seat passenger and that side of the car took the force of the impact when it hit the tree.

Watch Commander Darren Haley from Cleckheaton fire station said: “Guided by paramedics, we removed the car’s roof and did a full extrication procedure. The lady was conscious, breathing and talking throughout the rescue.”

The woman, who is in her early 40s and from Liversedge, was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary suffering from suspected neck injuries.

The driver of her car and four people in the other car, a Vauxhall Vectra, managed to get out of their vehicles and were unhurt.

The road was closed for 45 minutes while the emergency services dealt with the aftermath of the smash.
