A woman feared she was going to be raped after a teenager followed her into changing rooms at a sports complex and exposed himself.

Piotr Rybicki, 19, was high on legal drugs and drink at the time of the frightening incident at Leeds Road Playing Fields.

He must now register as a sex offender for seven years.

Kirklees Magistrates’ Court had heard how during the evening of May 7, Rybicki had gone into the reception building of the sports complex.

He was in the area for a considerable time, acting strangely and trying to engage others in the area in conversation as they ignored him.

At one point he had his hands down his trousers, the court heard.

A woman there was uncomfortable and moved away into the changing rooms but she was followed in there by Rybicki, of Crest Hill Road in Brackenhall.

Linda Fowler, prosecuting, said: “The door opened behind her, she turned round and saw this man stood in the changing rooms.”

The teenager had undone his trousers to expose his genitals and touched himself in front of her.

Mrs Fowler said: “He looked at her and said: ‘I need, I need’ and she thought he meant for sexual release.

“She was worried, she thought he was going to rape her and said something like: ‘I’m not impressed’.

“She pushed past him, walked back into the reception area and called 999.”

He was arrested and claimed that he had no recollection of the changing rooms incident because he had drunk 10 pints of Fosters that day.

The teen, who appeared in court via a prison video link, said that he stole from his former workplace after something snapped inside him.

He pleaded guilty to charges of exposure as well as two shop thefts after he took a wallet from TK Maxx in the Kingsgate Shopping Centre as well as property from Asda.

Zahid Majeed, mitigating, described his client as ‘extremely remorseful’.

He said: “He’d shown empathy as to how his conduct made the complainant feel. There’s nothing to indicate any issues with his sexual behaviour.

““He was in a state through drink and legal highs, then walked to Asda and selected the bottles of alcohol and consumed them.

“His life has taken a change for the worse, he lost his job and that resulted in a spiral of debt and depression.

“Now his character has been defined as somebody who commits offences of theft and indecent exposure.”

Magistrates handed Rybicki a suspended jail term of 20 weeks. He must undergo six months of alcohol treatment and sign the sex offenders’ register for seven years.

They also made him subject to a seven year sexual harm prevention order.

This bans him from acting in a manner to cause alarm, distress or harassment to any female which leads her to fear personal or sexual harm.

Finally, he must pay £180 court charge, £85 costs and £80 victim surcharge.
