A woman who was found hanging next to a main road in Huddersfield has died.

The 35-year-old, who police have named as Silva Parden-Bell, was discovered at 6.30am on Friday near the Broadway Hair Salon in Bradford Road, close to the Slubbers Arms.

Resuscitation attempts were carried out at the scene before she was taken to hospital where she was described as being in a critical condition.

Sadly police said she lost her fight for life at Leeds General Infirmary on Saturday.

The Examiner understands that the deceased was one of Huddersfield’s ‘rough sleepers’ who police and carers tried to help around 10 days ago.

Examiner reporter Robert Sutcliffe saw her briefly when he was researching a feature on the homeless with police and partner agencies recently.

We came across her in Alfred Street multi-storey car park in the town centre when she and a man called Alan were found sleeping on an upper floor along with her dog.

Despite the best efforts of PC Scott Gardner and Paula Loftus, senior client service manager, of Huddersfield’s Clare House hostel for the homeless, Ms Parden-Bell was reluctant to be helped.

The police file will now be passed to the coroner and an inquest opened and adjourned in due course.

Ms Parden-Bell’s family and Ms Loftus did not wish to comment.
