The woman hit by a train at Slaithwaite this morning has died.

British Transport Police confirmed the woman had passed away following the incident at 8.12am this morning.

She was struck by the 7.40am service from Manchester Piccadilly to Hull.

Witnesses at Slaithwaite Railway Station said a number of emergency vehicles attended at the station.

Route affected are First TransPennine Express trains between Manchester Piccadilly and Hull / Scarborough as well as Northern Rail services between Manchester Victoria and Huddersfield.

A spokeswoman for British Transport Police said the Manchester bound line opened shortly before 9.15am and teams were working to open the line towards Huddersfield as soon as possible.
