A WOMAN was found unconscious by firefighters after a blaze broke out in her home.

Fire crews were called to the terraced house on Westgate in Cleckheaton at 12.10pm yesterday.

They broke in through the front window and found the woman in her early 60s slumped on the settee.

She had been overcome by smoke and the firefighters gave her oxygen.

She was then taken to Dewsbury District Hospital for a check-up.

The fire was confined to the pan.

The downstairs of the house was smoke damaged.

Cleckheaton fire station watch manager Tim Hamer said: "Fortunately no oil was in the pan.

"If there had been it could have been a very different matter."

The woman had regained consciousness before being taken to hospital.
