A woman suffered a broken cheekbone during an assault in Huddersfield town centre in the early hours of this morning.

The 31-year-old woman was with a friend in Centro’s takeaway in Northumberland Street when an argument broke out between her and a man.

The man is believed to have been making derogative comments towards the woman who then became visibly upset before a number of others became involved.

The woman was struck once in the face by the man before witnesses intervened and separated the pair.

The victim was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and treated for a broken cheekbone.

She was later allowed home following the assault which happened between 3.50am and 4.15am.

No-one has been arrested so far.

Detective Inspector Stef Wiseman from Huddersfield CID said: “We know a number of people witnessed what happened and enquiries are ongoing.”
