A woman was tied up and robbed in a terrifying raid on her home.

Two masked raiders burst into the 66-year-old woman’s home in Barnsley Road, Denby Dale. They threatened her and demanded cash.

The pair, thought to be teenagers, tied her hands and escaped with an amount of money.

Police said that minutes earlier the same youths broke into an empty house next door, stealing jewellery and cash.

They fled when the householder returned home – then went next door.

After tying up the woman they drove off in the victim’s Mercedes B Class, which was later found abandoned in Back Lane, Shelley.

Det Con Richard Brooke, of the Kirklees Robbery Team, appealed for information on the two raids.

He said the woman was left shocked and added: “This was clearly a frightening incident for the victim who was unhurt but understandably distressed.

“We are linking the two crimes and would appeal for anyone who has information or knows who may be responsible to contact us.

“Similarly anyone who saw two men abandoning the victim’s black Mercedes in Shelley is urged to get in touch.”

The suspects were described as white teenagers, around 5ft 8in tall and of thin, slight build wearing dark hooded tops with the hoods up and scarfs covering the lower part of their faces.

Both spoke with a local accent.

The raids happened on the evening of Wednesday, August 13.
