West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry is investigating what happened and have made a new appeal for witnesses.

On Monday the Examiner revealed that the crash between a VW Polo travelling towards Huddersfield and a Vauxhall Corsa travelling in the opposite direction was preceded by an earlier collision in which diesel oil had been spilled on the road.

Sgt Ann Drury said:“We are appealing for witnesses who may have seen this collision or either vehicle prior to the collision to come forward.

“There was an earlier collision at this location including a Renault Clio and I would ask anybody who witnessed that collision to come forward.”

It is thought that the Vauxhall Corsa skidded on the spilled diesel fuel in the road and ploughed into the VW Polo heading the other way.

A message from a friend of the deceased

Tributes were placed on Facebook and at the scene including one from two of Laura’s friends, Stacey and Mel, part of which read: “You were one of the nicest people we have ever met and we were proud to call you our friend.”
