A BODY was pulled out of the River Calder, Brighouse, on Saturday afternoon.

Police are now investigating but as yet have released very little information other than it is believed to be the body of a 53-year-old local woman.

Police say the death is not thought to be suspicious.

Det Insp Mark McManus, of Calderdale Police, said: "We went to a report of a body being found in the River Calder, at Armytage Road, in the centre of Brighouse."

He said it was reported by a man who had been out rowing on the river just after 2pm.

"The body was recovered and we are continuing our inquiries to try and establish the identity of the lady and to establish the cause of death."
