A WOMAN who fell more than 30ft down an embankment after suffering an epileptic attack had a miracle escape.

The woman, believed to be in her late 20s or early 30s, was walking with a friend along Wood Terrace, Primrose Hill, at just after 10pm last night.

She suffered a fit and fell about 30ft down the embankment.

She stopped her fall by grabbing a tree.

Below her was another sheer drop of up to 60ft into the River Holme.

Her friend called fire crews who arrived at the precarious situation at 10.12pm.

Crews from Huddersfield, Brighouse and Cleckheaton managed to send an officer on a line down to the woman.

He bound the stricken woman, who was still having an epileptic fit, to the tree to make her secure.

Crews then managed to get her on a stretcher and haul her to safety.

Ambulance crews took her to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.

Huddersfield fire station Watch Manager Graham Ambler said that despite the severity of the incident the woman had been lucky.

He added: "If she had not caught the tree it could have been a lot worse. There was a sheer drop just below her which went to a plateau and then into the Holme.

"It is a bit of a miracle escape."

Despite her ordeal - which lasted more than an hour - the woman is not believed to be seriously hurt.

Watch Manager Ambler added: "The woman was constantly having a fit and was very distressed.

"It was a complicated and difficult rescue."
