Money intended for community use will not be clawed back by the council.

Kirklees Council runs area committees – groups where councillors and members of the public earmark cash for highway improvements, grit bins or community activities.

Clr Charles Greaves, Holme Valley North Independent, asked whether unspent funding should be rolled over to the next financial year.

Clr David Sheard, Cabinet member for resources, said: “I think there should be a roll-over of unspent money.

“I’ll make sure a Cabinet proposal makes it clear we won’t claw back any more left over in area committee budgets, capital or revenue.”
