AN ACCOUNTANT who abused his position while working for Wooldale Co-operative Society has been given a suspended prison sentence and must pay £5,000 in compensation.

Colin Richard Linton Davis, of Holmclose, Holmbridge, pleaded guilty at Huddersfield Magistrates Court to offences under the Fraud Act 2006.

The court heard that Davis, 38, committed fraud between August 2010 and September the same year while working for the independent Co-operative Society at Wooldale Road in the Holme Valley.

He was given a 16-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay the £5,000 compensation.

He was also ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work supervised by the Probation Service.
