A WORKMAN has died in a horrific accident.
The 25-year-old was crushed beneath a large slab of concrete while working on a building in Batley.
He was with colleagues changing Batley Snooker Club on Eyre Street into a restaurant when the tragedy happened at 8.30am yesterday.
The Health And Safety Executive is investigating.
Watch manager Glenn Meacham, of Dewsbury fire station, said: "His workmates tried to lift the slab, but were unsuccessful. We used high pressure airbags and hydraulic jacks to lift the slab, but paramedics declared the man dead at the scene."
