Workers at an historic textile firm in Holmfirth face an anxious time.

They are still waiting to hear whether they will have jobs after administrators were called in just two days before Christmas.

But it could be weeks before there is any concrete news about the historic firm.

A letter was sent to workers at Westwood Yarns, based at Washpit Mills, just days before Christmas, warning that the company was to going into administration, and sparking fears for many of the 135 jobs.

Paul Flint and David Costley-Wood of KPMG were appointed joint administrators on December 23, after the company experienced cash flow difficulties.

They will consider a number of options over the next few weeks, and have appealed for any interested parties looking to acquire the business to contact them.

Mr Flint, an Associate Partner at KPMG and Joint Administrator, said “It is a difficult time of year for any business to enter administration and our team is in contact with employees at Westwood Yarns to assist them through this period.

“We will be in touch with key stakeholders to explore our options, including the possibility of a sale, to maximise the return to the Company’s creditors. We would encourage any interested parties to make contact as soon as possible.”

Westwood Yarns director Richard Collinge, who described the news as “devastating”, said: “The administrators have gone in and are dealing with the affairs.”

The company, which spins specialist yarns which it supplies to many of Britain’s major carpet manufacturers, has a history going back well over a century.

Mr Collinge has said he hopes the administrators can come up with a plan to enable the company to carry on.

Any interested parties should contact John Noon or Mark Wooffinden of KPMG on 0161 246 4801 and 0161 246 4060 respectively.
