BUILDERS have started construction work on a new health centre in Huddersfield.

Contractors employed by The Pennine Property Partnership LLP, the joint venture between Henry Boot Developments Limited and Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, have started work on the Acre Mills site in Lindley.

Acre Mills, a listed former wire mill across the road from Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, is being redeveloped to provide a new 56,000 sq ft centralised outpatient centre.

It is expected to serve more than 200,000 outpatient appointments every year. The new facility is due to be completed and operational by mid-2014.

The aim of the joint venture is to create healthcare facilities fit for the 21st century and also to realise the potential of surplus property assets to generate the capital investment required to deliver improved medical services for the Calderdale and Huddersfield area.

The partnership are also seeking developers for the former St Luke’s Hospital site in Crosland Moor.
