From the realms of the deep unknown to Holmfirth – the town’s next big visitor is said to be out of this world.

Travis Walton is the world’s most famous alien abductee, and he’ll be swapping space for a taste of the Holme Valley when he makes a rare UK visit to speak at the Picturedrome later this year.

Travis, a lumberjack from the USA, was logging in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest in Arizona in November 1975 when he mysteriously disappeared, perhaps literally, off the face of the earth.

After re-appearing confused in a remote area following a five-day search, Travis recounted being taken aboard an aircraft and being subjected to medical experiments by extra-terrestrials.

His case is one of the most famous and controversial of all abduction stories, and was subsequently made into the film Fire In The Sky.

Travis’s visit as guest speaker will headline the 4th UFO Truth Magazine conference.

The magazine is the UK’s leading online forum on the subject, which was founded by local UFO expert Gary Heseltine.

A conference in Holmfirth last year proved to be a huge success with UFO enthusiasts travelling from across the country to take part.

Gary, from Scholes, said he was delighted to announce Travis’s appearance at the conference in September, adding he regarded the story as “highly compelling”.

“Without a doubt Travis Walton is the world’s most famous living ‘alien abductee’ and it is a great coup for the magazine to have him come to Holmfirth.

“I met Travis in the US in 2010 and was immediately struck by his genuine demeanour.

“He was just an ordinary guy caught up in an extraordinary event.”

The event on September 10th and 11th is expected to be a sell-out, with 60 per cent of tickets already sold.
