AN Almondbury mother has appealed to Kirklees Council to do something to cut traffic speeds on her road.

Diane Harrison says there have been several injury accidents on Almondbury Bank over the last three years.

She says the road needs humps and other traffic-calming measures - even speed cameras - to make drivers slow down.

She has gathered the support of more than 25 other residents in a petition in a bid to get something done.

"Cars often come down here at 40mph," she said. "It's even faster at night.

"We really feel something needs to be done before any more accidents happen."

She wants traffic-calming on the stretch from the junction with Forest Road down to the junction with Ravensknowle Road.

A Kirklees spokes- woman said there had been six injury accidents on Almondbury Bank, between Wakefield Road and Bank End Lane, in the last three years.

Four had been around the junction with Ravensknowle Road and double yellow lines had been painted there to improve the range of vision for drivers.

The spokeswoman added: "Of the two remaining accidents, only one was caused by excessive speed.

"We take allegations of speeding seriously and the details have been passed on to the police.

"They are responsible for enforcing speed limits and will take whatever action they feel is appropriate."
