IT’S been a double victory for Huddersfield X Factor hopefuls, Jordan Higo and Ashford Campbell.

The pair’s group Nu Vibe secured a place in the last 16 of the hit ITV show last night.

Nu Vibe were picked for the final live stages by judge Tulisa alongside groups 2 Shoes, Rhythmix and The Risk.

Tulisa told them: “From just being put together I think you’ve done really, really well, you’ve found your strong point and all got individual personalities.”

Jordan, who was head boy at Newsome High School, and Ashford, who is studying languages at Leicester University, grew up within a few miles of each other.

But Jordan, 16, of Crosland Moor, and Ashford, 19, of Lowerhouses, only became acquainted in Nu Vibe.

Jordan’s mum Susan Higo, 44, a senior nurse at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, said: “We’re really excited. It’s all really nerve-racking. You don’t know when he’s coming home so you can’t plan anything.

“He’s always done really well at anything he’s put his mind to. Before that his focus was on becoming a professional rugby player.

“Only last year he decided he could sing – he’d never really sung before.

“When he went to the first audition he never thought it would come to this. He just went for the experience so he can’t believe he’s gone further.

“The X Factor is based around personality. Naturally I’m biased because I’m his mum, but he’s really easy to get on with and he has the personality to carry him along.”

Ashford’s mum, Bernadette Baptiste, said her house went crazy when her son reached the final stages.

She said: “We’re absolutely over the moon he’s got that far. Ash was born to sing – it’s something he’s always done.

“Yesterday we all came to my house with T-shirts with Nu Vibe on. We were all celebrating when he got through.

“We thought our neighbours were going to call the police because of all the noise. They might have thought someone was getting attacked in the house!”

Nu Vibe will compete against boys Frankie Cocozza, Craig Colton, Marcus Collins and James Michael.

In the girls category is Misha Bryan, Janet Devlin, Sophie Habibis and Amelia Lily, while the over 25 finalists are Sami Brookes, Kitty Brucknell, Jonjo Kerr and Johnny Robinson.
