HUDDERSFIELD radiographers are preparing to be put through their paces to raise cash for hospice patients.

The X-ray team from Huddersfield Royal Infirmary will be taking part in an It’s A Knockout event in Brighouse next month to raise money for Overgate Hospice in Elland.

The group – called the Radio-Actives – will be among 12 teams competing in the tournament based on the 70s television show.

They will have to complete an obstacle course made up of giant inflatables, water and foam to win trophies and a champagne hamper for the team raising the most cash for the hospice.

The event – being held at Brighouse Sports Ground on August 27– was due to take place on July 1, but had to be postponed because of flooding.

Barbara Higgins, HRI’s senior radiographer and a member of the team, said: “Many of the staff in the radiology department were big fans of It’s A Knockout and thought it would be great fun to take part in real-life version of the show.

“We are really looking forward to the challenge.

“We certainly aren’t afraid of a bit of foam or water, so we hope to do quite well and could even bring a trophy back to the hospital.”

The team aims to raise at least £80 each by collecting individual sponsorship and by selling Indian snacks made by Shanaz Khan, a diagnostic radiographer.
